Jim Diers (Neighbor Power) and Corisa Bell

Jim Diers and Corisa Bell

I had the honour of meeting and listening to Jim Diers today.  Jim began as an activist heavily involved in the Seattle area (protests, picketing and even releasing a chicken in the Mayor’s office) and was eventually hired by his local government.  His passion and stories resonate with me very much. I purchased his book and look forward to reading it!

Jim spoke about strengthening communities by allowing citizens to take ownership for their neighbourhoods.  “Neighbor Power.”

Ridge Meadows RCMP’s Street Enforcement Unit recovered some stolen property as a result of a search in a home Wednesday. The plain clothes policing team entered a residence on Dewdney Trunk Road around 8:00 a.m. February 22, 2012 after they had obtained a search warrant. Police recovered a Mac Book laptop computer that was stolen from Davie Jones Elementary School in Pitt Meadows a week ago. They also seized stereo equipment and personal cheques police believe were stolen from a break and enter in Burnaby that occurred hours before the search took place, as well as a small quantity of what police believe to be crystal meth and marijuana.

Two adult males were arrested at the home. One of the men was released without charges, while the other man remained in custody on outstanding warrants. The investigation is ongoing, and charges connected to the seized property is expected in the near future.
