Wow – nine and five car pile ups in Pitt Meadows

March 22, 2012

A nine vehicle crash snarled the morning commute through Pitt Meadows this morning.  Ridge Meadows RCMP were called about a four vehicle crash just before 6:30 a.m. on Thursday March 22, 2012 on the Lougheed Highway westbound, just west of Harris Road.  As police were enroute, a second crash involving another five vehicles occurred in the east bound lanes.  No one was seriously injured, but the B.C. Ambulance Service took one driver to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

It took approximately 2 hours before the road was completely opened, but police were able to keep one lane open each way while dealing with the crash site.  Sergeant Dale Somerville said, “At this point in time all I can say is a probable contributing factor in this crash was driver inattention.  Please remember to stay focused when driving, paying attention to your surroundings, and leaving enough distance between you and the vehicle in front of you is always a good plan.”
