Ridge Meadows Auxiliary Program A Plus!

April 13, 2012

Ridge Meadows RCMP are very proud of their volunteer programs.  The programs include Citizens on Patrol, Speed Watch, Citizens Bike Patrol, and the Auxiliary Constable program.  All programs have extremely dedicated citizens who donate their time and efforts towards keeping our communities safe.

The local detachment currently have 15 new Auxiliary Constables going through their training.  They have reached the half way point, successfully completing mandatory Provincial exams, and are on pace to graduate in June to add to the compliment of Auxiliary Constables who are already on strength.

Many Auxiliary Constables join the program out of a sense of community pride, but many are interested in a career in policing.  For three of last year’s Auxiliary class, this has come to fruition, as two have joined the RCMP while the third has just accepted a position with a Municipal Police Force.

Superintendent Dave Walsh said, “All of our volunteers give so much to our office and our community.  This is especially true in regards to our Auxiliary Constables.  They partake in many of the events that take place, ensuring traffic is not affected and families can enjoy these events.  They ride along with our regular patrol officers, which puts an extra pair of eyes on our streets for our focused patrols.  They have assisted us in maintaining a presence in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows with foot patrols in areas that have experienced criminal behavior.  It is excellent that three of our Auxiliary Constables are now moving on with policing careers.  It is hoped that the new RCMP members will one day return to Ridge Meadows Detachment and continue to help us keep our citizens safe.”
