Lauren Curtis – An amazing Maple Ridge six year old could use our help!

May 28, 2012 at 10:22 am | Blog

Here is a message Council received, let’s help Lauren be a success! It is amazing how motivated Lauren is, she is only six!! GO LAUREN GO!!

“Lauren Curtis is a very special French immersion student at Eric Langton Elementary. She has been raising money towards the new playground at her school and has raised $700 to date. Her initial goal was $1000. She is being recognized at her school assembly tomorrow am.

Now for the request: She is currently in a contest with Canadian Family Magazine that ends on May 31st. She is currently in 2nd place (with over 7600 votes). It is a tight race for first place. She is competing for first place with a child from Eastern Canada. It is a daily vote. Could you please vote for her every day until the end of the month….and could you please pass this on to all your contacts. The contest is one vote per ip address per day. Thank you so much. She really wants to be featured in the September issue of the magazine. And since she has worked so hard raising money for her school playground, she really deserves this.”

Maple Ridge, B.C. – With the aid of installed tracking devices Ridge Meadows RCMP, with the assistance of School District 42, were able to track and return four laptop computers that had been stolen from schools.  The tracking devices were installed by the School District’s Computer Systems Analysts resulting in the ability to monitor any computer stolen from a school in the district.  This system is similar to a bait car whereby it can be monitored once it has been stolen with real time capture of information.  When a computer is stolen, the School District liaises with the Ridge Meadows RCMP and provides detailed information that is reported by the computer. This allows police to obtain grounds to obtain a search warrant of where the computer is located.

File# 2012-9402 & 2012-9519

Showing that preventive patrols work, Ridge Meadows RCMP took two Prohibited Drivers, one of them an alleged Impaired, off our roads this weekend.  The first incident occurred around 9:00 p.m. Friday May 11, 2012.  A police officer noted a Dodge pickup driving aggressively on the Lougheed Highway near 105 Avenue.  The truck was stopped and the officer quickly found out the 44 year old Maple Ridge man was prohibited from driving by the Motor Vehicle Branch.  The man also showed signs of having consumed alcohol, and breath samples taken confirmed the man was well over the legal limit of .08%.  He was later released on a Promise to Appear.

The second incident occurred just after 2:00 a.m. Sunday May 13, 2012 on 240 Street near 113 Avenue.  A General Duty patrol officer stopped a black Infiniti car on suspicion the insurance was expired.  Turned out the car did have proper insurance, but the 29 year old Maple Ridge man driving has had his driving privileges prohibited.  This means he will have to attend Provincial Court in August of 2012, and the car was impounded for 7 days.

Maple Ridge, B.C. – Ridge Meadows RCMP joined with other community partners to clean up the area of 222 Street and Lougheed Highway.  As part of a ‘Take Back the Community’ project, police joined with the Maple Ridge City Hall, Maple Ridge Downtown Business Improvement Association, Maple Ridge Fire Department, Westridge Security, Maple Ridge By-Laws, Salvation Army Caring Place employees, and Community Volunteers.  Members of these community organizations picked up garbage in the area, which included an area known as the Back 40.  It is a parcel of land across from businesses and residences on Cliff Avenue.  On Tuesday May 1, 2012 a work crew cleaned out this area in a beautification effort.

(It was so great to be a part of this group effort to make our streets more beautiful.  It was also a lot of fun seeing what I would end up finding.  So many interesting things in the ditches it was like a treasure hunt! Clean up efforts are going forward once a week, if you would like to volunteer please contact the Salvation Army and they will let you know how)!  Corisa,
